Canon EOS 400D-Review
The Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi digital SLR is the
HTML clipboarddigital camerasuccessor
to the best-selling EOS 350D / Rebel XT. This camera follows the design
of the EOS 350D, being very compact and relatively lightweight but not
compromising on manual controls or in-use performance. It is packed
with many new features that makes this an ideal camera for both the
novice photographer and the experienced professional.
The headlines features for the EOS 400D are its ten megapixel sensor,
nine-point AF sensor (from the EOS 30D) and new EOS Integrated Cleaning
System. This digital camera has a 10 million pixel sensor, and the
shutter speeds for this canon digital camera are 30 seconds to 1/4000
seconds in addition to the Bulb mode. The lens that is used is that of
a Canon EF/EF-S lens.
Utilizing the same 9-point autofocus system as the 30D, the Digital
Rebel XTi is capable of analyzing where a subject is -- even when it is
off center – and almost immediately bringing it into focus. It can also
analyze subject movement and automatically select locking or tracking
AF modes as needed. These features simplify the camera’s operation and
optimize its performance. The Digital Rebel XTi allows users to select
locking or tracking AF modes independently, adding a new dimension of
creative control. The DIGIC II chip increases the speed of autofocus
calculation and hence the responsiveness of the autofocus itself.
Canon EOS 400D has larger 2.5" LCD monitor that has a 160o viewing
angle both horizontally and vertically. You can also easily find the
camera settings and adjustment on the LCD monitor. There is also an
image magnification which is available in record review. Its histogram
is available as either RGB or Brightness. RGB is the red, green and
blue colors while brightness is the luminance. According to digital
camera ratings, this unit shows more vibrant and alive colors.
The Digital Rebel XTi's 12 exposure modes are easily selected by a turn
of the top-mounted Mode dial. These exposure modes cover virtually all
the shooting conditions you'll ever encounter and are: Full Auto,
Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night Portrait, Flash Off,
Program AE, Shutter speed-priority AE, Aperture-priority AE, Manual and
Auto Depth-of-Field AE. The camera's ISO sensitivity range is 100, 200,
400, 800 and 1600, The Auto ISO setting includes ISO 400 in order to
help improve image quality, reduce camera shake and brighten the scene
behind the subject when taking a flash photo.
The Canon Digital Rebel XTi is an excellent take-anywhere all-purpose
digital SLR, that can serve as a second camera for owners of Rebel XT,
20D, 30D, and 5D cameras who want to keep a second body with a
different focal length strapped around their neck. I think serious
photographers would do better with an EOS 30D for its stronger build
and greater manual adaptability, but for just about everyone else, the
Rebel XTi offers everything you need and more.
