WITH the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, US coffee chain Starbucks launched a range of mooncakes in nine flavors.
Patrons can choose from green tea cheese, cranberry kiwi, caffe Colombia hazelnut cheese, caffe Verona vanilla blueberry, caffe Verona chocolate, caffe Kenya citrus, green tea grapefruit, earl grey lemon and cranberry cheese.
The mooncakes are available in two packages, the Star Joy Mooncake Gift Box for 218 yuan and the Star Language Mooncake Gift Box selling for 318 yuan.
Unlike traditional golden-brown mooncakes that are made of heavy, sticky lotus-seed paste and contain whole egg-yolks in the center, Starbucks mooncakes are made of lighter and healthier ingredients such as fruit and assorted nuts.
"We suggest diners the mooncakes while drinking coffee. Different coffee can bring out the different flavors of the mooncakes. It would be amazing for those who first try this way of eating mookcakes, "said Carrie Hu, a manager with Starbucks.
Meanwhile, to provide customers with more options, Starbucks launched Coffee Passports, which contain 10 coffee vouchers and sell for 268 yuan.
Starbucks Post Office will help customers mail a coffee voucher to their friends for free. Customers who buy a cup of coffee at any Starbucks outlet before the end of August are eligible to fill in an envelope and the coffee outlet will hold a lucky draw and mail the letters for the lucky winners.
